DR LEONID SHAPIRO

DR LEONID SHAPIRO, MD, PHD

Leonid is a Partner at Brookstreet as well as the Managing Partner and founder of Candesic, a leading European advisory for PE/VC with over 300 deals and engagements track record for all the major PEVC funds see our Partners Page for Candesic credentials . Brookstreet does investments and Candesic is our internal consulting and strategy house. The synergies of the two are quite unique. Leonid works for over a decade now with PEVC firms advising their Investment Teams. Clients are mainly institutional global funds (like Blackstone, KKR, CVC, Bain, BC Partners). His personal experience involves over 100 engagements. A number of PEVC engagements were done together with Omiros. He previously worked at McKinsey & Company, specializing in private equity strategy. Leonid’s entrepreneurial ventures include being the COO of a $126m software company and the CEO of a telecommunications firm. He holds an MD from Duke University, a PhD from Oxford University and a BA from Cornell University. He trained in Corporate Finance at the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI).

Gottfried is a Partner at Brookstreet and a co-founder of QINO Group of companies. He has been leading positions at GiroCredit Bank der Österreichischen Sparkassen AG (now Erste Bank Group, head of equity trading/sales) and Unicredit (former Bank Austria Group, head of trading/sales CEE in the investment banking unit) since 1985, managing also the BAI-OST mutual fund (best-performing Eastern European fund of the year 1998). In 1999 he co-founded QINO Group in Switzerland, a group of research, investment and advisory firms specialised in the development of strategic corporate investments, both on a proprietary basis and also as a trusted partner for institutional and qualified investors. Currently he holds executive and non-executive management positions within the group. He also managed the European Emerging Market Fund, a private trust company between, and advised Springer Investment mutual fund between 1999 to 2002, and Springer European Plus, which is among the best performing European equity funds between 2001 to 2004. Gottfried holds the CySEC Advanced Certificate.

Previously, he served as Senior Vice President at the President's Office of Eurosport and before that as General Director of the Athens Olympic Games 2004 where he was decorated with the Olympic Order Award by the President of the International Olympic Committee, Count Jacques Rogge. Prior, he was the CEO of Continent Hellas of Carrefour Group and before that the CEO of Corina Foods of PepsiCo Group. He started his career with Nestle after studies at Northeastern University. George interests were transferred to his Family Office. George is part of our Heritage, an inspiring figure to us all, and one of the founding fathers of our wealth creation. George had an astonishing CEO career managing thousands of employees for multinationals and then an incredible “Founders Story” managing start ups and scaling up small-cap firms which he sold to PLCs. SPYROS PAPASPYROU

Spyros spearheads our Portfolio Management efforts, giving access to a C-level executive with years of experience to our assets. He has over 30 years experience in financial services including, CEO and Deputy CEO position in Greek Banks such as Piraeus Bank, where he was managing €32B of assets. He previsously served as Assistant General Manager and Strategic Marketing Director at Eurobank and Group Marketing Director at National Bank of Greece. His experience spans across retail commercial banking, private banking, payment systems, asset management, distressed assets, risk management and insurance. In addition, he has served for 7 years as President of the EXCO of Greek Banking Association, also President of the board of AVIS Greece, ATE Insurance and JV AMC between Piraeus Bank and BNP Pariba and several other non-listed companies. Last but not least, Spyros served as Board member of VISA Europe and Piraeus Bank. He holds and MBA from Aston University UK and BSc in Finance & Management from the American College in Greece.

 

THOMAS SPERRY

Tom Sperry is currently an Advanced Leadership Fellow at Harvard University and recent graduate of Harvard Business School OPM 55 class. He co-founded and is managing director of Rogue Venture Partners, a venture capital firm investing in historically under-capitalized regions, with particular expertise in ESG and IoT ventures and a total of 35 deals with 14 exits. Earlier, Tom began his career at Microsoft where he was a founding member of the Games Division.

Tom has a passion for working with under-served communities and frontier markets. He is currently working with the World Bank to develop an entrepreneur and investor ecosystem in Palestine, previously worked with global humanitarian aid NGO Mercy Corps to build the first start-up accelerator in the Gaza Strip, and launched a fund to invest in companies founded and led by women.

In 2002 he joined the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games Organizing Committee as General Manager of Personnel and Volunteers and member of the Games Operation Committee and Operations Centre of the ATHENS 2004 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Ambassador Tziras is a Member of the Advisory Board of the International Diplomatic & Business Exchange in London (IDBE) and Member (Honorary) of the Board of the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival (LAGFF). He is also advisor to the President of the Committee GREECE2021. In 2008 he was awarded Grand Commander of the Order of the Phoenix by the President of the Hellenic Republic. JIMMY ATHANASOPOULOS, MBA

As Greece Representative of Libra Group’s Social Responsibility, Jimmy Athanasopoulos is responsible for the Libra Social Responsibility programs.

Following an MBA from Northeastern Illinois University, Jimmy began his career in Chicago as a provider of financial and investment services across various asset classes. He later undertook a variety of management roles at multinational corporations including DNV, Tyco Healthcare, and TetraPak before entering ship management as Chief Financial Controller with FreeSeas Inc. preparing statutory reports towards the SEC. He later joined G. Bros Maritime S.A. where he was responsible for financial reporting to the Board of Directors.

Jimmy joined the Libra Group, in 2012, as Director of the Hellenic Entrepreneurship Award (now Envolve Entrepreneurship), an award program for Greek start-up businesses funded and operated by the Libra Group. In 2015, he joined Libra’s Executive Team as Head of Social Responsibility, providing strategic oversight of the group’s global responsibility and education programs. In 2016, Jimmy completed the Executive Education Program for Social Responsibility at Harvard Business School.

In 2019, he served as Interim Chief Financial Officer of EuroEnergy, Libra Group’s energy company in Europe. At EuroEnergy, Jimmy managed the company’s economic strategy and was responsible for financial reporting to partners.

Additionally, he is Chairman of Envolve Entrepreneurship and sits on the Advisory Council of The American Community School in Athens. Jimmy is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Hellenic American University and is an active part of the broader ‘Elevate Greece’ evaluation team.

Konstantinos Macheras, former CEO of AB Vassilopoulos, joins Brookstreet Equity Partners LLP as CEO-in-Residence Advisor. Mr Macheras took AB Vassilopoulos from 15 stores and a turnover of $117m to 330 stores and a turnover of $2billion. Konstantinos Macheras is the President of the Institute of Retail Consumer Goods and Former EVP of Delhaize Group & CEO of Southeastern Europe and Asia. Previously he served for 14 years at Mars Inc. in Holland, Greece and Italy. He holds a BSc from Piraeus and an MBA from Roosevelt University of Chicago. Mr Macheras was named Officer in the order of King Leopold II by the King of Belgium Albert II.

THEODORE PAPAPETROPOULOS

A graduate of Varvakeios (Greek experimental school), Mr. Papapetropoulos holds a BSc Hons in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and an MA in European Economics (with Distinction) from the University of Exeter.

Following his graduation, he was awarded a Robert Schuman scholarship and consequently worked at the European Parliament. Mr. Papapetropoulos started his career at KPMG Peat Marwick in London where he became a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales. He, later, joined IDV of the Grand Metropolitan PLC in London and was a key member of the working group for the acquisition of METAXA SA, as Director of Finance and Business Planning.  Following, he co-founded and served as General Manager of ABC Factors, a subsidiary of Alpha Bank. During his tenure, the company evolved to a market leader in the domestic Factoring and Forfaiting services industry.  He was later appointed General Finance Manager of the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games and then Executive Director of the Organizing Committee.

Mr. Papapetropoulos is the CFO of the shipping company Metrostar (Theodore G. Aggelopoulos Group), specialising in Corporate Development (Mergers & Acquisitions) and business financing.  He lives in Greece and has three children.

From 2014 to 2018 – SAE Digital – was later acquired by Arco Platform (Nasdaq: ARCE), the first company in Brazil to be publicly listed on the Nasdaq and an EduTech Unicorn currently trading at USD 2.6 billion.

REGINA RYAN

Regina Ryan has over 20 years as an entrepreneur, investor and executive with working for multi-million dollar companies, start-ups, and nonprofits.

Currently, Ms. Ryan has been President of Harvard Alumni Entrepreneurs since 2012. Prior to this role, Ms. Ryan has been part of start-up teams for corporate, private and social enterprises. 

In addition to her entrepreneurial experiences, Ryan has held senior management positions in higher education, technology services,  trade associations and nonprofits as well as consulted for a wide range of corporate, private, government and nonprofit organizations.

Ms. Ryan is an Instructor, Executive Education at the Harvard Kennedy School.

Andreas is an established Board level Executive and Advisor, with over fifteen years experience in leading transformations.  He was a Senior Director with AlixPartners and prior to that, he was with Ernst & Young and A.T. Kearney.  Currently he is the CEO of an ultra-luxury retailer and of Ithaka Capital Partners. Andreas is an alum of Rotterdam School of Management, a Fellow of the European Association of Certified Turnaround Professionals and an accredited member of the Institute for Turnaround.

Philippos is a Partner at Maven Global and co-founder of Panthir Capital UK.  Previously he was Global co-Head of FX Structuring at Barclays Capital, and before that he was with Merrill Lynch both in New York and latterly, London focusing on M&A, Derivatives and European FX. Philippos is an alumnus of Athens College, the University of Oxford and Yale University.

Nicholas G. Karambelas is a founding partner of Sfikas & Karambelas, LLP and practices in United States with correspondent offices in Greece and Cyprus. He practices in the areas of business organization, law of investments, international trade and e-commerce. He has written numerous articles on commerce and Hellenic investments including the Comparative Guide to Business Entities in Greece for USA investors and the Guide to Legal Aspects in United States for Foreign Investors. He has also authored a three-volume treatise entitled “Limited Liability Companies: Law, Practice and Forms”. Mr. Karambelas holds a Juris Doctor from Fordham University Law School and a Masters from Columbia University. He Chairs the American Hellenic Lawyers’ Society of Greater Washington, D.C. and is a Board Member of the American Hellenic Institute and the American Hellenic Institute Foundation. In 2015 Mr. Karambelas was honoured by the Hellenic Lawyers Association of New York as its "Attorney of the Year”.

Philip started his career as an investment advisor and restructuring consultant with experience in Europe and the former Soviet Union since 1992. As a Consultant at Kienbaum Development Services (KDS), the non-EU branch of Kienbaum und Partner he was based in Dusseldorf, Germany and worked on projects in Cyprus, Czech Republic and Zambia. In 1995, he co-founded Navigator Consulting Group, specialising in business restructuring and corporate growth. In 2010, co-founded Navigator's business incubator, and is actively working as a business angel and accelerator for tech sector entrepreneurs both within Navigator as well as external partners. Currently a Managing Director of the European Consulting Network, a Managing Partner of Navigator Consulting Group and Numenor Capital Partners in Cyprus as well as the former Team Coordinator for Greece at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). He holds a Bachelor's at Princeton (A.B.), and read HRM management at Cornell and Fintech at Oxford.

Marianna has 25 years of professional experience, ten of which have been within Global Banking Custodians and Financial Service providers in Europe. Born in Greece, she read Accounting & Finance at the American College of Greece and started her career at SPIE BATIGNOLLES, a member of the JV project for the Olympic Metro and then moved to BNP Paribas Securities Services and worked in Greece, France and Belgium. In 2005 she moved to the UK and successfully completed executive roles within Morgan Stanley, as Manager of Client Service Corporate Actions Division, in Risk Metrics International Proxy Voting Services, as Executive Relationship Manager and finally in JP Morgan Chase, as Head of the Client Relationship Team, EMEA Region, Worldwide Securities Services.

Following her family move to Doha in 2009, she has since advised Qatar Government and Private Institutions in organisational and growth projects. As a Managing Consultant of Black Leaf Qatar, a niche consultancy and advisory firm based in Doha, she is responsible for Strategic Business Development, Project Assurance and Stakeholder Management.

MAHMOUD EL SAKKA, MPA

Mahmoud is General Manager and Head of the Investment Banking & Corporate Finance Division at Arab African International Bank (AAIB). He has 30 years experience in investment banking and corporate finance. Mahmoud holds a BA in Business from Cairo University, an MA in Banking and Finance from the University of Wales, and an MPA from the American University of Cairo and trained at Harvard.

Financial Associate/VP

George serves as senior Financial Associate/VP in the Fund Management team and coordinates analysis teams world wide (UK, USA, Europe). He previously served at a Merchant/Investment Bank, as an "FCA-authorised-and-regulated" M&A Executive Director. During this time he originated and managed international deals (sell-side, buy-side, private placements) and structured private equity funds for Mayfair-based family offices. He graduated with an MSc International Public Policy at the UCL (University College London) and read Economics as an undergraduate.

KONSTANTINOS MITROPOULOS, MSc

Konstantinos serves as a Senior Analyst in the Fund Management team where he coordinates portfolio, origination and business process re-engineering. Prior to Brookstreet, Konstantinos worked for a dynamic startup and consulted in projects for clients that included Shell Chemicals and Formula One Group. He graduated with an MSc in Management from Imperial College Business School and read Electrical & Computer Engineering (NTUA) as an undergraduate.

SACHIN GUPTA

Sachin is coordinating the reporting and compliance activities of Brookstreet. He is working with our suppliers (legals, admin, accounting and others) to align capital account statements, risk management processes and international assessments. Sachin gained experience at Deutsche Bank and Nomura, then worked as Senior Audit Assistant at Deloitte, before embarking Magic Capital a global private investment platform and then Aztec as Senior Fund Accountant.
