A former swimming champion of Greece from 1969 to 1974 and two times Olympian in water polo (1980 and 1984), Mr. Spyros Capralos was elected in June 2019 a member of the International Olympic Committee.  He is a member of the Olympic Solidarity Commission, President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee and a member in the Executive Board of European Olympic Committees.

During his IOC history, he has served in the past as a member of the IOC Culture and Olympic Heritage Commission and as an expert of the IOC Culture and Olympic Education Commission.

Moreover, he has been Chairman in EOC Olympic Culture & Education Commission, Chairman in EOC Coordination Commission for the 1st European Games “Baku 2015”, Chairman in EOC Coordination Commission for the 2nd European Games “Minsk 2019”, Member in ANOC Events Commission, General Secretary of State and City Manager in Olympic Games Athens 2004, Executive Director in Organising Committee for the Olympic Games Athens 2004, Chef de Mission of Greece in Atlanta 1996, Member & President of Olympic Preparation, Vice-President of the Greek Swimming Federation.

Beyond being a accomplished sportsman, Mr. Capralos is a distinguished businessman as well, being the Chairman of Starbulk Carriers Corp. (NASDAQ:SBLK), having served in the past as the company’s CEO.  He has been President of the Federation of European Securities Exchanges, Chairman and CEO of the Athens Exchange, Executive Chairman of National Bank of Greece and VP at Bankers Trust Company in NY, Paris, Milan, London and Athens.

He is serving on the BoD of Euroclinic (Chairman) and of GEK Terna.

Mr. Capralos has been awarded the Olympic Order and the Order of merit by the Republic of Azerbaijan.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Athens and an MBA from INSEAD.
